More Unseen Hell's Angel Images...

These images were taken by LIFE photographer Bill Ray back in 1965, for an article on the outlaw biker gang the Hell's Angels, written by Joe Bride.

One of the images from the 1965 LIFE magazine article.

Rolling Thunder
From Jesse James to Tony Soprano, outlaws have always held a singular if ambiguous place in America's popular imagination: we fear and loathe their appetite for violence, yet we envy and covet their freedom. In early 1965, LIFE photographer Bill Ray and writer Joe Bride spent several weeks with a gang that, to this day, serves as a living, brawling embodiment of our schizoid relationship with the rebel: the Hells Angels. Here, in a gallery of never-published photographs, Ray and Bride recall their days and nights with Buzzard, Hambone, Big D, and other Angels (and their "old ladies") at a time when the roar of Harleys and the sight of long-haired bikers was still new, alien, and for the average, law-abiding citizen, simply terrifying. Above: Hells Angels, 1965 -- the one previously published image in this gallery. None of the pictures that follow have ever been seen before.

Pelagicus...Mike, Neil & Mark Pearson's family wildlife album

All kinds of critters and creatures and a profusion of birdlife abound in this excellent nature/wildlife/travel/photography blog from Yorkshires answer to The Three Amigos. In their own words... "After their great Floridian adventure, the 3 members of the Pearson clan returned to their respective homes. Mark, being drastically short of money, took up a post as personal trainer to Bruce Forsyth, to prepare him for the forthcoming series of "Come Dancing". Neil, is taking a short rest in Providence before setting off for Chile in order to research his next book - The Frogs of the Atacama Desert. Mike has returned to the UK where he spends all his time watching Coronation Street". GoTo: http://pelagicus.blogspot.com/

Danny Lyon, Photographer and Outlaw Biker

This is a must for anyone interested in counter culture/youth culture/drug culture/outlaws/hell's angels and everything in between. The '60's biker images are among the best I've ever seen, and his images of the destruction of Lower Manhattan are ghostly, bleak and beautiful.

Danny Lyon was born in 1942 in Brooklyn, New York. At age twenty-one, he joined the Chicago Outlaw Motorcycle club and traveled the American Midwest. From 1963 to 1967, he shared the bikers’ lifestyle and took photos along the way. In 1967, he completed his first book entitled, Bikeriders.
The Destruction of Lower Manhattan, Danny’s second book, was published in 1969 and originally sold for one dollar. It documents the large-scale demolition taking place throughout Lower Manhattan in 1967. Included are photographs of soon to be demolished streets and buildings, portraits of the neighborhood’s last remaining stragglers and pictures from within the demolition sites themselves.

The Real Murphy Photography and Travel Blog...

Huge and fascinating blog dedicated to photography and travel. Well worth spending a day getting lost in Thomas Murphy's world. In his own words...

Thomas Anthony Murphy was born in New Jersey in 1978, and currently resides in Brooklyn, New York. His two great passions in life are travel and photography. He believes that travel broadens one’s view of the world by experiencing other cultures and meeting people from different countries. Through his photography, Thomas seeks to document his own personal experiences by capturing scenes and events as he sees them, to share with others the beauty and sometimes ugliness of the world he’s seen. As the images of other photographers have inspired him to explore the world, he hopes his own contributions will inspire others to do the same.
