Dennis Hopper May 17, 1936 – May 29, 2010...

Dennis Hopper...American actor, film maker, writer, photographer, cultural icon, lightning rod, friend of the devil, auteur, scenester, mad man, schizoid, fallen angel, broken cowboy, seer, visionary, hell raiser and human being.

Terminally flawed,  haunted and possessed, but always brilliant, Dennis Hopper was many things to many people. He seemed to be every where at all times. His careers spanned five decades of unpredictable living, taking him to the brink off many abysses on many occasions. The stories are legend now, his bad behaviour his calling card. He was an artist in the true sense of the word and his life mirrored that art. He had a vision that transcended most of his contemporaries, and which may never have been truly realised. He was to cinema what Hunter S. Thompson was to journalism, Gonzo, degenerate, compelling and unique. He questioned the binds of society and spat in the face of social norms.

I'm pretty sure he was hard to like at times but equally he was impossible to ignore.
